Mary Kate e Ashley ja completam 17 anos de idade e de multimilionarismo em familia. Okay, elas estao na mdia.

Expliquem seus papeis na companhia Dualstar. O que exatamente voces fazem?

Ashley: Existem muitas areas diferentes na Dualstar. Nos temos a moda, os videos que nos dao um exemplo dos videos que queremos fazer, o enredo, tudo! Quando alguma coisa fica na moda, temos que escolher o que queremos para fazer parte da nossa linha. O que nos achamos apropriados ou nao.

Existe algum setor do trabalho que voces se envolvem mais profundamente? A linha de beleza, os filmes, as roupas, os livros...

Ashley: Nos estamos muito envolvidas com muitos deles. Mas eu diria que os dois em que nos mais opinamos sao os filmes e as roupas.

De que forma?

Ashley: Para as roupas nos apenas temos que pensar sobre o que o resto da America quer e ver tambem a idade dos consumidores. Algumas vezes certas criancas acabam gostando demais, mas voce so tem o meio termo. Gostamos de ficar na briga, mas se algo vai a venda e vemos que nao foi uma boa opcao, nos nos envolvemos mais e mais para justamente evitar que isso aconteca de novo.

Ja ocorreu de alguma mercadoria ir a venda sem o certificado de voces?

Mary Kate: Sim. E nesses casos nos dizemos: Essa nao e nossa assinatura. Nos nao aprovamos isso.

Ashley: Muitas vezes eles nos fazem assinar produtos.

Mary Kate: Como bonecas, por exemplo.

Ashley: E eles voltam tres meses depois e nos voltamos a dizer: Nos nao aprovamos isso, nao colocamos nossos nomes nas embalagens.

E estranho ver vocs mesmas como bonecas?

Mary Kate: A coisa mais estranha esta sendo diferenciar as duas bonecas. Esta na cara. Essa e uma coisa estranha.

Ashley: Quando tinhamos dois anos, foi lancada uma boneca da Michelle (Full House).

Voces tem que posar para os moldes das bonecas? Medem sua face e seu fsico?

Ashley: Eles lhe fotografam a face em todas as direcoes por mais de uma hora. Entao, espertamente, pensamos: Hum, nossos narizes sao um pouco grandes, voce pode acerta-los na boneca.

Mary Kate: E estranho olhar para uma cara pequena e ver que ela parece voce. Ela nao se parece tanto comigo mas se voce se centrar nas formas dos olhos...

Vocs brincam com suas proprias bonecas?

Mary Kate: No.

Ashley: Nos costumavamos pegar as Barbies e cortar os cabelos dela. Foi sempre uma coisa muito legal.

Mary Kate: Nos as pegamavos e dizamos: Essa precisa de cabelo curto. Essa outra de um novo visual. Nossa mae ficava brava, mas achavamos que elas sempre ficavam melhores com nossos ataques de cabeleireira.

Ashley: E algumas vezes nos a carregavamos e elas ficavam de cabelo espetado.

Voces leem seus proprios livros?

Mary Kate: Nos costumavamos.

Ashley: Nos damos ideias de que atividades queremos fazer nos livros, como ballet ou cavalgar.

Voces ficam euforicas quando conhecem alguma celebridade?

Ashley: Sim, nos ainda ficamos euforicas quando falamos com certas pessoas. Nos tambem gostamos de rever as garotas que fizeram a sessao de fotos da Vanity Fair para conhecermos um pouco mais suas personalidades. Quando estavamos no MTV Awards, adivinha quem estava sentada atras de nos?

Mary Kate: Busta Rhymes.

voces leem coisas mentirosas sobre voces?

Ashley: Tem uma revista chamada Star que sempre conta como eu namoro e como eu vou com Matt me divertir patinando. Eu nao vou patinar. Quero fazer o que gosto, da licena? Tambem e chato quando vejo minha foto nas revistas. Nosso pior pesadelo e ver fotos nossas livres e ingnuas. Estivemos no Hawai nas frias...

Mary Kate: Terrivel experiencia.

Ashley: Tem uma pagina inteira da gente em traje de banho.

Mary Kate: Correndo.

Ashley: Correndo no Hawai. Eu acho que vou me matar. Eles querem fotos feias. Aqueles montes de paparazzi me enlouquecem.

E dificil manter seus namorados fora disso?

Ashley: Sim, foi uma coisa estranha que aconteceu. Na revista People da semana passada tem uma figura de Mary Kate e de meu namorado, Matt, dizendo: Ashley e Matt, mas a foto era com Mary Kate.

Isso acontece muito?

Ashley: Nao com frequencia.

As pessoas tentam vestir voces iguais todo o tempo?

Ashley: Nao, independente de sessao de fotos ou nao, nos vestimos o que queremos e ningum vai dizer o que devemos vestir.

Voces costumavam se vestir igual quando eram mais novas?

Mary Kate: Nao, mas ja utilizamos essa tecnica e somos conhecidas um pouco por isso. Nas estreias de filmes nos nos vestidos iguais diferentes.



Vocs ja quiseram se vestir igual para a estreia de um filme (premiere) ou tem gostos diferentes?

Mary Kate: Algumas vezes eu quero vestir uma camisa e ela tambem quer vestir, entao nos decidimos quem vai com o que.

Ashley: E isso vira uma briga de socos.

Mary Kate: Sim, nos puxamos nossos cabelos.

Ashley: Para premieres ou ocasioes especiais, nos quase sempre vestimos coisas diferentes. Eu gosto de ser classica e elegante e ao mesmo tempo engracada.

Mary Kate: Eu gosto de ser engracada. Eu realmente nao ligo. Eu saio para jantar fora provavelmente vestindo calca esportiva e camisa.

Por acaso voces gostam de aparecer numa festa vestido calas esportivas?

Mary Kate: Eu nunca fiz isso, mas deve ser muito legal. No MTV Awards.

Mary-Kate and Ashley are just your average 17-year-old multimillion dollarearning sisters. Okay, they're anything but average...

Explain your role in the company Dualstar. What exactly do you guys do?
Ashley: There are so many different areas within Dualstar. We have the fashion, the videos we got to choose what we wanted [the videos] to be about, the script, everything. When it comes to the fashion line, we get to choose what we want for the line....what we think is appropriate and not appropriate.

Is there one aspect of the business that you guys are more involved in? There's the beauty line, the clothing line, the films, the books...
A: We're pretty involved in most of it, but I'd say the two that we're most opinionated about are the films and the fashion.

How so?
A: For the fashion line you just have to think about the rest of America and what they would like and the age group.
Sometimes certain kids are going to like it more than we would, but you just have to compromise. It's been a lot of compromising. We like to stay in the loop, so that if something goes in and we don't necessarily like it we'll get more involved because we want to make sure it doesn't happen.

Does that happen where stuff goes through that you didn't okay?
Mary-Kate: Yes. We'll be like, "That's not our signature. We didn't say okay on that."
A: A lot of the time they'll make us sign something after we see things to approve them.
M-K: Like dolls
A: And then they'll come back three months later and we'll be like, "We didn't sign okay to that one. There's no way I let them put that top on that doll."

Is it weird seeing yourselves as dolls?
M-K: The weird thing was being able to tell the difference between the two dolls. It's the face. That was a weird thing. A: When we were 2 years old, there was a Michelle doll [the girls' character from Full House].

Did you guys have to pose for your doll? Do they measure your face and stuff?
A: They take pictures of your face from every single direction for over an hour. Then we went back and the first time we were like, "Um, our noses are a little too big, and I think maybe you could do this a certain way."
M-K: It's so weird to look at a tiny face and be like, That doesn't look like me maybe if you shaped the eyes a little different...

Did you guys play with your own doll?
M-K: No.
A: We used to get Barbies and cut their hair. That was the coolest thing ever.
M-K: We'd get them and go, "This one needs short hair. This one needs bangs. Let's layer it." Mom used to get mad. We'd be like, Oh it looks better like this.
A: Or sometimes you'd get carried away and it would be really spiky hair.

Have you ever read your own books?
M-K: We used to.
A: We give ideas for what activities we like to do [in them], like ballet and horseback riding.

Do you still get excited when you meet a celebrity?
A: Yeah, we still get excited to talk to certain people. We just got excited to meet the girls that we did the Vanity Fair photo shoot with because we wanted to see their personalities.
When we were at the MTV Awards...who was sitting behind us that we were so excited about?
M-K: Busta Rhymes.

Do you ever read things about yourself that totally aren't true?
A: There's a magazine called Star that just came out [with a story] talking about how I have a boyfriend and how I love partying and we go Rollerblading. I don't go Rollerblading. I want to be like, Excuse me? It's also hard when I see pictures of me in magazines...that's our worst nightmare is to see candid shots of us in a magazine. We were in Hawaii on vacation...
M-K: Scarred for life.
A: There was a whole page of us in our bathing suits.
M-K: Running.
A: Running in Hawaii. I thought I was going to kill myself.
They want bad pictures. That whole paparazzi thing freaks me out.

Is it hard to keep your boyfriends out of it?
A: Yeah and it's been in the press lately and that's kind of weird. In People last week there was a picture of Mary-Kate and my boyfriend, Matt, saying, "Ashley and Matt" but it was a picture of Mary-Kate.

Does that happen a lot?
A: Not usually.

Do people try to dress you the same all the time?
A: No, because other than photo shoots like this, we get to choose what we want to wear no one is going to tell us what to wear.

Did you guys used to like dressing alike when you were younger?
M-K: No, but that was what we were known for. If we did premieres or a photo shoot we'd be like okay same but different.

Have you guys ever wanted to wear the same thing to a premiere or do you have different tastes?
M-K: Sometimes I'll want to wear a shirt and she'll want to wear a shirt, so we'll just have to work it out.
AG: So there'll be a fistfight.
M-K: Yeah, we'll pull each other's hair out!
A: For premieres or special occasions, we usually dress totally different. I like being classy and elegant but funky at the same time.
M-K: I like being fun. I really just don't care. I go out to dinner probably in sweatpants and a shirt.

Wouldn't you love to just roll up to a premiere in sweatpants?
M-K: I would never do that, but I mean that would be so cool...The MTV Music Awards!
